Jo's artistic journey began in the countryside of the East Midlands, where her love for dance and nature sparked a lifelong passion for art. Despite a delayed start, Jo's commitment to her creative pursuits intensified after the turn of the millennium. She enrolled in an art foundation course in Nottingham and also pursued a secretarial course, underscoring her versatile approach to life and art.

The vibrant energy of London provided a backdrop for Jo’s artistic growth over the next decade. She balanced part-time work with her art while travelling the world and embracing motherhood. However, it was not until 2003, when Jo relocated to Sussex, that she found her true artistic sanctuary. Establishing a studio in rural Sussex allowed her to fully immerse herself in her art practice.

Style and Techniques 

Jo Starkey’s artwork is characterised by its vibrant depiction of the natural world. Utilising a layering technique with acrylics and mixed media, Jo creates pieces with rich depth and texture. Her work is distinguished by its use of gold and silver accents, adding a unique dimension to her creations.
