Where It All Began

Watergate Art started its journey in 1992, nestled in a small shop on Chester’s iconic Watergate Street. With just a couple of dozen watercolours, a few Victorian oil paintings, and barely enough space to display them, our gallery helped ignite the city’s emerging art scene. But from the very beginning, our mission was clear: *Art for all*. We set out to break down barriers and make art accessible to everyone, fostering a new way of viewing and engaging with art.
