DC Artistic
The Fusion of Charcoal and Acrylic
What draws you to creating art in your chosen medium?
I’m deeply drawn to working with charcoal and acrylic. Charcoal’s malleability allows for a wide range of manipulations, which pairs beautifully with the vibrant colors of acrylic. This combination lets me explore and express my vision in dynamic ways.
Does the area in which you live influence your work?
Absolutely. Growing up in a rundown area and spending a lot of time on the streets has profoundly impacted my art. The environment and experiences of my upbringing are reflected in my work, giving it a raw, authentic edge that might be different had I grown up elsewhere.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from powerful psychology, music, and my favourite artists. These elements fuel my creativity and shape the themes and emotions in my work.
Do you listen to any favourite music, radio, or podcasts while working in the studio?
Music is a crucial part of my creative process. I mostly listen to hip-hop, grime, and garage music while working, though I also enjoy some classical piano. I often stand up and dance while I work, which helps me stay energised and immersed in my art.
If you could invite three artists or art influencers to dinner, who would they be?
I would invite Christian Hook, Richard Hambleton, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Each of these artists has had a significant impact on the art world, and it would be incredible to discuss their work and influence with them.
What drew you to join Watergate.Gallery?
A fellow artist recommended the Watergate.Gallery to me. After visiting, I was impressed by the gallery’s atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. The quality of the work on display also amazed me, making it a place where I felt my work would be well-received.
