Craig Davison
Growing up in Sheffield in the early 1970s, Craig Davison spent his carefree days riding bikes and embarking on childhood adventures. Little did he know, these experiences would become the foundation of a career that would make him one of the UK’s best-selling fine artists, known for his nostalgic and energetic paintings.
Craig’s journey into art wasn’t straightforward. He started as a cartoonist, drawing beloved characters like The Shoe People and The Wombles, before moving into animation and games design. Working on iconic computer games such as Zorro, The Hulk, and The Hurricanes gave him a platform to develop his skills as a sculptor, creating 3D reference figures for animation. His talent in sculpting soon led him to work with international brands, including Harry Potter and Doctor Who.
It wasn’t until 2007 that Craig Davison fully embraced painting. A year later, he became a full-time artist, working from his Worcestershire studio. While painting is his primary focus, Craig continues to sculpt, incorporating both skills into his body of work. His art draws inspiration from the comic book style of Mike Mignola, the minimalist characters of Yoshitomo Nara, the dynamic energy of Goya, and the detailed illustrations of N.C. Wyeth.
Craig's work is defined by a nostalgic energy, often reflecting his own childhood memories. "I like my paintings to have a slightly naïve, grubby look with lots of energy," he says, which he believes captures the essence of his youth. Since signing with Wishbone Publishing in 2018, his work has been admired by collectors across Europe and the world.
